DeFish is a tool created by Ken Turkowski
to correct the distortion caused by a fisheye lens. Once the distortion is corrected,
such images can be used for various purposes, including the creation of VR panoramas.
This tool does not make use of any technology introduced in the Ipix patent; it is based entirely on prior art, such as Creating Raster Omnimax Images from Multiple Perspective Views Using the Elliptically Weighted Average Filter, Ned Greene and Paul Heckbert (IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, June 1986, vol. 6, no. 6, pp. 21-27) and Environment Mapping and Other Applications of World Projections, Ned Greene (IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, November 1986, vol. 6, no. 11, pp. 21-29). For an explanation of theory, visit Ken Turkowski's fisheye page. For some practical examples, see Ken's examples page. |
